Asbestos Pipe Wrapping

This wrapping is fireproof and does not transmit heat.  It protects and insulates hot water piping and prevents any one from being burnt by it.

Hardware

Various hardware supplies (screws, nails, gaskets etc.) find use in plumbing work. They are usually made of steel, iron, or rubber.

Insulating Materials
  1. Hair and wool felt, cork, asbestos, and various mineral insulators such as mica and mineral wool and polyurethane foam are used to insulate pipe system where it is necessary to prevent loss of heat or protect occupant of the house from hums.
  2. Lead: Lead finds several uses in plumbing. Lead pipes are common in some installations. sheet lead is used as a water proofer, molton lead is often used as a water proofer, molten lead is often used to seal joints in cast iron pipe. However use of lead is give up now.
  3. Hempyarn: Hempyarn is a loose stringy fibre, used to pack seams and joints while caulking. It is forced into the hubs of jointed pipe with caulking to form a seal prior to leading.
Other Materials
  1. Sand Paper, Steel wool, and sand or Emery clothes: These abrasives are most frequently used to remove rust patches, brighten copper fixtures and clean surfaces prior to soldering.
  2. Sheeting (Zinc, Tin and Lead): Sheets of zinc, tin or lead are used to make flashing which prevent water lacks and to line pipes as a protection against corrosion.
  3. Washers for Bib Taps and Stop Cock: A bib tap or stop  cock that continues  to drip after it has been turned off probably has a torn washer which no longer fits tightly with valve seats.  The washer should he replaced.
  4. M Seal : M seal is an epoxy based sealing material extensively used now-a-days for arresting minor leaks in pipe lines, flush tanks and other sanitary fittings and accessories. The application of 'M' seal involves preparation of surface by rubbing with sand emery paper. After removal of all loose and rusty material, the 'M' seal (hardener and base) shall be mixed in proper proportion and applied in the leaking spots.  After settling of the 'M'  seal, the water supply can be restored or the sanitary fittings put into operation.
  5. White Lead: White lead is used in threaded portion of GI pipes in order to make the joints watertight. Unlike 'M'  seal, white lead cannot be used to seal holes, cracks in pipe lines. Cotton threads used as packing for jointing the threaded portion and pipe specials are applied with a paste consistent white lead
  6. and this thread is taken around the thready of pipe. The joint is sufficiently tightened and the white lead allowed to dry. After drying, water is permitted into the pipe line.
