You have already studied about various finishing materials, their types, properties, internal and external uses, etc. in the earlier unit of this block. Now in this unit, you will study about the use of insulation, vis-a-vis the architecture of a structure.
Insulation impiles to isolate a given item, especially with a substance or device preventing the passage of electricity, heat or sound. In this unit you will be studying about various insulating materials, and their uses in building construction.
Objectives
After studying this unit, you should be able to
- describe different types of insulating materials,
- discuss their functional requirements, and
- understand the methodology and the field of application of these insulating materials.
