Concrete Equipment

The production of quality concrete requires proper care at every stage of manufacture. Earlier the production methods were mainly manual, but  now over a period of time concrete equipment has been developed to assist manufacturing process of concrete like at hatching, mixing, transportation, placing, compaction and curing stages. With the advent of Ready Mix Concrete, the concrete equipment requirements have further undergone a quantum change. We will discuss some of the concrete equipment now.

Batching Equipment

a)  Semi-automatic: In this equipment the charging and discharging of the batches are activated manually but are terminated automatically. On large works weigh bucket type of weighing equipment is used. This equipment is fed by a large overhead storage hopper and it discharges by gravity, straight , the mixer. The weighing is done through a lever-arm system and two interlinked beardless and jockey weights.

b)  Automatic Batching Plant: These are  available both in small and large capacities. Here the operator has to press  only one or two buttons to put into motion the weighing of all the different materials. The flow of each material is automatically cut off when correct weight is reached. In some of the record automatic weigh batching equipment, recorders are fitted, which record graphically the weight of each material being delivered to each batch. They are meant to record and check  the actual and designed proportions. In the most advanced form,  automatic plants  are electrically operated on a  punched card system. This type of plant is suitable for manufacture of ready-mixed concrete.

Batching equipment must be given regular  maintenance. You should regularly check the accuracy of the weigh batches. The dust from  finely divided solids Like cements and pozzolanas can cause malfunctioning leading to errors in weighing of materials.
