Transporting and Placing

  • See that concrete is moved from place of mixing to the place of final deposit as speedily as is practicable and avoid segregation.
  • See that concrete is placed  and compacted before initial set commences and ensure that it is not subsequently disturbed.
  • When concrete has to be deposited at a depth more  than 1.5 in, it shall be conveyed in suitable receptacles or by chute. The delivery end of the chute shall be as close as possible to the point of deposit.
  • Ensure concreting is carried out continuously upto joints whose position is shown on the drawings.
  • When  work has to be resumed on a surface which has hardened or practically hardened, steps must be taken to remove laitance and apply an adhering coat of cement slurry to provide bond between old and new concrete.
  • See that concrete is thoroughly worked  around the reinforcement, embedded fixtures, hooks for ceiling fans and comers of formwork.
