Basic Contents of an Impact Statement

There are five points that need to be adhered to in an Impact Statement. They are :
  1. Project description,
  2. Land use relationships, 
  3. Probable impact of the proposed action on the environment,
  4. Alternatives to the proposed tactical and
  5. Probable adverse environmental effects which cannot be avoided.
Now, let us see each of the points in detail

Project Description

Both the negative and positive impacts the project should be examined/explored in complete detail. In addition, attention must also be directed towards the primary and secondary impacts associated with a proposed action. Primary and secondary impacts are also referred to as direct and indirect consequences. In general,agencies have developed methods and procedure to respond in part to direct impacts both beneficial and adverse.

The major impact of a project in many cases is due to the secondary or tertiary effects and these are quite difficult to assess due to dearth of predictive includes available.
