Theory 'Y'

Theory Y presents an alternative view of human nature. Its major assumptions are as follows :

  1. An average human being likes work. He is willing to take responsibility
  2. External control and punishment are not the only methods to motivate people.
  3. Man has capacity for self direction.
  4. Employees can be motivated by rewards which they receive from organisation.

Theory Y presents a positive view of human nature. In any organisation. some managers will have theory X orientation and some will have theory Y orientation. Both of then can play significant role in management of organisation.
