Quality Assurance and Quality Control

There are two distinct quality functions within the task  of making a product or delivering a service. The first is quality assurance. This is concerned with the determination of methods/procedures to be used and the type and frequency of checks to be made within the system in order to ensure that the system is meeting the specifications embodied in the design. The second side of coin is quality  control, which concerns with the actual checking or completion of the various tasks involved in the quality procedures which have been determined within the quality  assurance function. Whilst the latter is often best completed as a centralized function due to the test equipment investment and the level of sculled staff required, the former is normally best undertaken within the operations function and at the time the job is completed. Developments and the place of quality control within the job of work can be easily understood through Figure.
