Types of Control

Steering Control

The purpose of steering control is to detect deviation from standard before a sequence of steps is completed. For example, it will try to assess whether target for annual sales can be completed or not before the sales activities are completed.

Post-action Control

It measures results after completed action. Suppose your desirable result is increase in sales by 10% in 1995-96. Once sales activities are completed, deviations are assessed. In other words, how much was actual increase in sales. If it was less than the target the cause of deviation is analysed and corrective action is determined for future activities.

Streening Control

This type of control provides for a means for taking corrective action before operation may usually start; for example legal approval of contracts and quality control inspection in plant. A sales officer is asked to take approval of limit of discount which can be offered to customers before he actually offers this facility to customers. Streening control is Motown as yes/no control also.
