Construction materials management (CMM) can be defined as "the methods and procedures of identifying, procuring, storing, distributing on time the materials and equipment required for the projects and in doing so administering the total process in the most profitable manner while keeping in view the goals, objectives and resources of the organisation".
Note
- The word "profitable manner" has been used instead of economical manner to emphasise that profitability implies economy and should be made the goal in construction management.
- The other aspect is "on time". In fact, time is money in construction. This second aspect is the other crucial characteristic which CMM practices of any organisation should address.
