Emerging Organisational Trends

A project organisation will need to be tailored to the requirement. No doubt the principles of organisational theories have universal application, but they need to be modified to suit the situation. The emphasis in project organisation varies somewhat from standard organisations and demands, for example :

  • Decentralization of power and authority to the project manager.
  • Equal emphasis on the human skills and the professional skills of the project managers and the supervisory staff.
  • Good integration of the task-oriented teams, through a well-conceived communication channel, enabling them good interaction vertically and horizontally.

The key to providing an effective project organisation is to strike the right interface between it and the parent corporate organisation, by adopting the correct "matrix" which will put "authority",  "responsibility" and "accountability" in the right perspective.

An organisation can be responsive to any change in organizational environment, if it is provided with inbuilt flexibility and the necessary delegation of powers to the project manager.
