Principal Aspects and methods of maintenance

The principal aspects and methods of maintenance include servicing, repairs and inspection. Inspection should be done by an agency different from servicing and repairs, as far as possible.

Servicing involves operations for supplying the requirements of fuel, lubricants, cooling whaler, etc. and are carried out by the machine operator the servicing staff. Field repairs arc carried out by another crew upon the advice of the inspection or the servicing party. Inspection is performed on the equipment while in operation to detect possible defects which may lead to breakdown. Periodical inspector  uncovers faulty maintenance (servicing aid field repairs).

The principal methods of maintenance of field equipment are :

  • maintenance in a central depot. and
  • maintenance at the site of works by mobile servicing units.

On small projects where the distances are short, the equipment are brought to the central workshop for maintenance and servicing. The servicing is usually done during the non-operational shift to save time during the working shift. On large projects where the equipment are spread out over a wide area, it is desirable to bring the maintenance facility to the equipment. The servicing can be done during the recess in a working shift of after the working hours. A skilled crew with well equipped servicing trailer may take only a few minutes  ti) service a machine so that it can be quickly fed back to work after being serviced.

Field repairs. like servicing, can he carried out either in a field repair workshop or through a mobile workshop truck.  As in the case of mobile servicing units, the mobile workshop leads to economy by saving the time of movement of the machine to the field workshop.

For follicles Attila are usually serviced at the depot. a specific day is usually-fixed for each acquitting  and painted prominently on the machine lo avoid my omission in servicing.

The central workshop that carries out Jordanian repairs and overhauling is not generally considered a part of the maintenance organisation.
